The aim of the publication is to present information on the economic situation in health care and its trends, in the form of time series, in context with the development of the overall economic environment, and to provide it to health professionals as well as to the wide public. The present issue contains a digest of available economic information from various sources. Macroeconomic information from Czech Statistical Office, information on expenditure on health and on health insurance first of all from Ministry of Health, and from General Health Insurance Corporation. The area of health care providers is covered by Institute of Health Information and Statistics using data of the National Health Information System. Further data are obtained from State Institute for Drug Control and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The basis for international comparison is the database OECD Health Data.

The publication has been published since 1998 under the title "Trend of macroeconomic and health indicators".

This Topical Information brings a preliminary overview of costs of the public health insurance system on particular types of health care in 2013 and a brief summary of development of costs on health care types during 2009–2013. Health care costs of health insurance corporations reached 222 thous. mill. CZK in 2013.

This Topical Information brings a preliminary overview of costs of the public health insurance system on particular types of health care in 2012 and a brief summary of development of costs on health care types during 2008–2012. Health care costs of health insurance corporations reached 224 thous. mill. CZK in 2012.

The treatment of users of alcohol and non-alcohol drugs (dg. F10–F19) accounted to 0.74 % of total costs of health insurance companies and more than 15 % of costs spend on treatment of mental disorders (dg. F00–F99) in 2007–2011. Costs related to treatment alcoholics (dg. F10) and non-alcohol drug users (dg. F11–F19) slightly increased in 2011. The largest proportion of costs of treatment of both groups was represented by inpatient care (62 %), outpatient care accounted for 8 %, and medicines for nearly one fifth.
