The aim of the publication is to present information on the economic situation in health care and its trends, in the form of time series, in context with the development of the overall economic environment, and to provide it to health professionals as well as to the wide public. The present issue contains a digest of available economic information from various sources. Macroeconomic information from Czech Statistical Office, information on expenditure on health and on health insurance first of all from Ministry of Health, and from General Health Insurance Corporation. The area of health care providers is covered by Institute of Health Information and Statistics using data of the National Health Information System. Further data are obtained from State Institute for Drug Control and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The basis for international comparison is the database OECD Health Data.

The publication has been published since 1998 under the title "Trend of macroeconomic and health indicators".

The average total monthly salary of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on salary (health care providers founded by Ministry of Health, region, municipality or city or other central institution) in 2013 was 30 174 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 60 635 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 28 706 CZK. The average total salary decreased by 0,8 % from 2012. The average monthly wage of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on wage (in private organisations and all balneological organisations irrespective of founder) reached the level of 25 314 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 54 863 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 23 647 CZK. The average wage decreased by 0,5 % from 2012.

The average total monthly salary of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on salary (establishments founded by Ministry of Health, region, municipality or city or other central institution) in 2012 was 30 403 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 61 078 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 29 150 CZK. The average total salary increased by 4,2 % from 2011. The average monthly wage of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on wage (in private organisations and all balneological organisations irrespective of founder) reached the level of 25 439 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 55 957 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 23 567 CZK. The average wage increased by 2,8 % from 2011.

The average total monthly salary of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on salary (establishments founded by Ministry of Health, region, municipality or city or other central institution) in 2011 was 29 188 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 57 687 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 28 145 CZK. The average total salary increased by 5,2 % from 2010. The average monthly wage of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on wage (in private organisations and all balneological organisations irrespective of founder) reached the level of 24 740 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 55 514 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 23 678 CZK. The average wage increased by 4,6 % from 2010.

This report presents an estimate of average wages in total health care services in the Czech Republic in the period of 2005–2010 broken down by categories of health and non-health workers. Statistical reports of IHIS CR, collected separately for non-business and business sphere, were utilized for calculations. The report gives information on the methodology of collected data and the way of calculation which encompassed imputations for types of health care establishments which are only partly or not at all covered by statistical surveys. The discussion presents problems coming from methodology and processing of data and factors making the interpretation of results more difficult. The basic results reveal that average gross monthly wage increased in health care services between 2005 and 2010 from 18.4 thous. CZK up to about 25 thous. CZK which was increase of nearly 37 %. The average annual growth rate of wages in health care services amounted to 6.4 % in nominal and to 3.5 % in real terms which was more than the average in the total economy. The increase of wages was slightly different among individual categories of workers and the highest growth was recorded in nurses and midwives in the observed period.

The average total monthly salary of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on salary (establishments founded by Ministry of Health, region, municipality or city or other central institution) in 2010 was 27 733 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 50 235 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 27 515 CZK. The average total salary increased by 3,7 % from 2009. The average monthly wage of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on wage (in private organisations and all balneological organisations irrespective of founder) reached the level of 23 660 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 49 223 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 23 397 CZK. The average wage increased by 3,6 % from 2009.

The average total monthly salary of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on salary (establishments founded by Ministry of Health, region, municipality or city or other central institution) in 2009 was 26 750 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 48 723 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 26 261 CZK. The average total salary increased from 2008 by 7,6 %. The average monthly wage of employees in health services in the CR remunerated according to valid regulations on wage (in private organisations and all balneological organisations irrespective of founder) reached the level of 22 840 CZK, for physicians and dentists it was 47 266 CZK and for general nurses and midwives it was 22 371 CZK. The average wage increased from 2008 by 6,8 %.
