ECHIM JA – Monitoring of health indicators in EU – Joint action
This is a project created for support and fulfilment of long-term goals of European Commission’s Second Programme of Community action in the field of health for the period 2008–2013. ECHIM Joint Action follows and uses the results of the projects ECHI (1998−2001), ECHI-2 (2002–2004) and ECHIM (2005–2008). Its goals are to facilitate monitoring of health in all Europe by means of development and implementation of relevant and internationally comparable health indicators and making them available in EU and is member states, and also in other European countries. The main tool of ECHIM is the list of European Community Health indicators (ECHI) – comprising 88 health indicators from the key fields of health and illness, health care, health service systems and health promotion. The aim of the project is implementation of comparable high-quality health indicators in all EU countries. The basis of the project are the results and outputs of projects ECHIM 1 and ECHIM 2 (European Community Health Indicators Monitoring). ECHIM Joint Action (2009–2011) has the task to consolidate the system of ECHI indicators by means of creating a sustainable health information system, as well as collection and dissemination of comparable health data and information base on the ECHI list. The project is steered by the secretariat in Finland (THL) and performed by cooperation with other four partners in the Netherlands (RIVM), Lithuania (NIH), Germany (RKI) and Italy (ISS). The Institute joined this activity already in the past years, in project ECHIM 2 and continues in project ECHIM JA, in which it is represented by a member of the steering CG.
