Statistics of persons with disability
Since 2001, international cooperation on the field of health statistics concerning measurement of disability is supported and coordinated by the “Washington Group on disability statistics“, (WGD). WGD meets annually in various cities and continents, the latest meeting took place in October, 2009 in Tanzania (these meetings are attended by workers of CZSO). The Joint meeting of UNECE, WHO and Eurostat on the problem of “Measurement of the state of health“ took place in 2004 in Geneva and then in November, 2005 in Budapest; here it was decided to call this joint effort of UNECE, WHO and Eurostat “The Budapest initiative“ (BI). The main task of BI is to develop, in cooperation with WGD and the mentioned BI institutions, a common tool for measurement of the state of health as a multidimensional phenomenon that could become a part of national population surveys as a recommended set of questions. These problems are closely connected with the tasks of the Institute and this is the main reason why we have participated in these activities from the beginning. The latest meeting took place in January, 2010 in Geneva and the main item was preparation of updating the second version of questions denoted as BI Mark 2 and meeting the demands and needs of EHIS survey in the second wave. Measurement of disability is connected with implementation and exploitation of international classification ICF and of its philosophy.
