Abortions in year 2009

In 2008 the total number of abortions declined to 40 528. The number of spontaneous abortions increased from 14 273 to 14 629 during the period 2008-2009 and presents 36.1 % of all abortions. Almost 72 % of all abortions in 2008 occurred up to 8th gestation week. The number of legally induced abortions declined to 24 636. Among women who applied for induced abortion till 8th week of pregnancy there was a largest number proportion of single, secondary educated and women with two children. Abortions of foreigners constituted 7.5 % of the total.
