Principles for the provision of information from NHIS

Data from the National Health Information System (NHIS) are provided on the basis of written requests sent by mail or e-mail. Answers to received requests are sent in writing to the applicants within the statutory periods. Personal data with identification are not provided in principle.

The request may be written on the form Request for providing data.

Address for sending written requests:

Institute of Health Information and Statistics
of the Czech Republic
P.O.Box 60,
Palackého nám. 4
128 01 Praha 2

Fax: +420 224 915 982
e-mail: uzis@uzis.cz

The request should include:

  • name and surname of the applicant and the represented institution,
  • their address, fax number and/or e-mail address
  • telephone number for the need of detailed specification,
  • the purpose of use of the requested data (commercial/study/science and research/use for the needs of the state administration/media).

In cases of use for seminar papers or graduation theses it is necessary to attach the name and address of the school and the consent if the supervisor (in writing, by mail or e-mail).

The data received from NHIS should be used exclusively for the purpose stated in the request.

Anonymised individual records may be provided for special, mainly scientific purposes, research and grant projects, subject to individual assessment of the request and on the basis of agreement on provision of data, for precisely specified purpose of use of the data, which may only be provided in forms preventing identification of the original reporting unit or of the subject of the data; this also excludes aggregated data concerning small sets with high risk of individual identification (small territorial units, aggregated data with excessively detailed structure, small numbers of reporting units in a given set etc.). Data concerning individual health care providers may only be provided with explicit consent of the subject of data. In other cases only aggregated data are obtainable.

Please peruse the possibilities of information contained in the systems under our administration (“Registers and IS” and “Statements”) and the structure of the collected indicators.

Routinely processed data are available in our published outputs, particularly in the Czech Health Statistics Yearbook.

Particular regional data are provided mainly by regional units of IHIS CR.

If a request for data cannot be granted, the Institute will issue a decision in writing.  Appeal against such decision may be filed and will be decided about by the Ministry of Health.
